ADCC 2019 Results: Puopolo vs Tex Johnson

Aaron “Tex” Johnson has had a difficult year or so leading up to ADCC 2019. He drew a relatively unheralded opponent in James Puopolo for his first match but couldn’t get past him. Tex was finished with a superb mounted Guillotine, no doubt what will be the first of many upsets today in Anaheim.

The Rafael Lovato Jr. black-belt, Puopolo, will meet one of the favorites to win the -99kg division, Vinny Magalhaes in the Quarter-Finals at ADCC 2019. Vinny looks to be in excellent form as he dominated Dan Martinez and clean-swept a 4-0 decision to book his place. With this surprise upset, Puopolo only needs one more victory to guarantee another two matches and an attempt at some silverware.
