ADCC 2019 Results: Lachlan Giles takes bronze, Giles is the people’s champion

After a tough loss to the always dominant Gordon Ryan, Lachlan Giles defeats Mahamed Aly to take the bronze medal in the absolute division.

Giles came out in the match for third place and immediately sat to guard and hunted for the heelhook. He found it and secured the tap from Mahamed Aly. The crowd was deafening.

Heelhooks were the go-to move for Giles. Lachlan had previously defeated Patrick Guadio in a decisive win via heelhook, attacking relentlessly until he had secured a tight heelhook and gotten the tap. He also defeated Kaynan Duarte, the +99kg champion, via heelhook in the first elimination round.
