ADXC 4 results and highlights: Espen Matheisen, Ffion Davies impress

Still-young grappling and BJJ promotion Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship held its fourth event over the weekend in Paris, France, and the card featured a number of elite competitors in both gi and no-gi matches.

In the no-gi main event, UFC standouts Benoit Saint Denis and Marc Diekiese squared off, with the Frenchman Saint Denis taking home the decision victory, much to the delight of the local crowd.

Before that, in gi action, Norway’s Espen Mathiesen made quick work of veteran French black belt Leon Larman, as he was able to secure the back position and a match-ending collar choke after just two minutes.

Lower still on the card, in perhaps the evening’s most significant no-gi matchup, reigning ADCC and IBJJF gi and no-gi world champion Ffion Davies – widely regarded as the sport’s top pound-for-pound competitor – scored a second-round armbar finish over 65kg ADCC invitee Morgan Black. Davies displayed excellent sweeps from bottom position, and, once on top, showcased her elite passing and finishing ability.

In other notable action, multiple-time gi and no-gi IBJJF world champion Nathiely De Jesus impressed in her no-gi clash with ADCC West Coast Trials winner Elizabeth Mitrovic, as she was able to take home a hard-fought decision win.

Also, on the preliminary card, 10th Planet veteran Geo “Freakazoid” Martinez secured a 27-second, highlight-reel heel hook on fellow multiple-time ADCC veteran Nicolas Renier.
