Ana Carolina Vieira joins Crevar, Fornarino at CJI 2

Reigning ADCC world champion Ana Carolina Vieira will compete in the four-woman bracket at CJI 2.

Craig Jones has announced the third participant in the four-woman, $100,000 bracket set to go down at CJI 2. Current 65kg ADCC world champion Ana Carolina Vieira will be joining teen phenom Helena Crevar and pound-for-pound standout Adele Fornarino in the division.

Jones announced Vieira’s participation on a recent episode of “On Borrowed Time.”

A multiple-time IBJJ black belt world champion, Vieira is one of the most accomplished women competing in the sport today. She won her first Worlds gold back in 2017 and would subsequently enjoy an incredible run of dominance for the next four years, racking up four more world titles.

In 2024, the Brazilian shifted her focus to no-gi competition and found immediate success, defeating Amanda Leve, decorated veteran Bia Mesquita, and Crevar to claim gold at the 2024 ADCC World Championships. She has since picked up another impressive victory over Raquel Canuto at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational.

Given her relatively recent victory over Crevar, coupled with her size advantage over Fornarino, Vieira looks to be the current favorite among the three competitors. However, it’s worth noting that Vieira’s win against Crevar took place under ADCC rules. If they collide again at CJI, the match will be conducted under CJI’s three five-minute round system with mat-side judges scoring each round. What’s more, Fornarino is the reigning ADCC absolute champion, so she’s already proven herself plenty capable of taking out larger athletes.

Stylistically, Vieira approaches grappling differently than either Crevar or Fornarino. While the other two are primarily guard players, Vieira is a talented takedown artist and a superb guard passer, typically looking to secure dominant position before gradually working her way toward the submission finish.

The four-woman, $100,000 bracket at CJI 2 joins a Quintet-style team competition that pits eight squads from around the globe against each other for a grand prize of $1 million.
