BJJ Stars 9 features Mica Galvao vs. Isaque Bahiense, lightweight grand prix

On Friday, October 21, top Brazilian jiu-jitsu promotion BJJ Stars will return to action with an event featuring a number of the sport’s elite athletes. BJJ Stars 9 includes a lightweight grand prix in memory of Leandro Lo, as well as top-tier superfights like Isaque Bahiense versus Mica Galvao and Samuel Nagai versus Fabricio Andrey.

In the grand prix, Checkmat’s Matheus Gabriel immediately stands out as a potential favorite. The two-time IBJJF world champion has lost just two times since the beginning of 2021 and holds a recent submission win over fellow tournament competitor Pablo Lavaselli.

A number of ADCC veterans will compete in superfight action. Brazilian Trials winner Isaque Bahiense will have his explosive guard passing tested against teenage phenom and ADCC silver medalist Mica Galvao.

Also, Galvao’s teammate and 66 kg. ADCC competitor Fabricio Andrey will take on top Checkmat black belt Samuel Nagai, and accomplished veteran Paulo Miyao will square off with Alexandre Vieira.

Two of the world’s top female competitors will also appear at BJJ Stars 9. Fresh off a gold medal performance at no-gi Pans, Dream Art’s Anna Rodrigues looks to continue her run of dominance as she faces Maria Claudio. And later in the night, ADCC and IBJJF world champion Bia Mesquita takes on the up-and-coming Thalya Silva.
