Buchecha set to star as IBJJF announces Nogi Heavyweight Grand Prix

Nogi jiu jitsu seems to be the best way to get eyes on the sport and the IBJJF look set to host their own blockbuster tournament.

With the ADCC World Championships scheduled for September, the IBJJF have announced a perfect tune-up event for the best heavyweights in the world. The IBJJF GP 2019 is set to go down at the Evexia Fit Fest on August 24th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the only competitor announced thus far is Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, it is likely that the GP will attract the cream of the crop and Gordon Ryan has also shown some interest in competing in the tournament. The one stickler for competitors may be the IBJJF rule set, which could throw a spanner in the works for those deep into preparation for ADCC and all its reaping goodness.

The IBJJF are offering the winner $40,000 and the runner up $10,000 so it will be interesting to see what athletes they can book and if they can find anyone talented enough to beat Buchecha.

Stay tuned for updates and analysis on the IBJJF Heavy Weight GP.
