CJJ Worlds Results and Highlights: Craig Jones Submits Donald Cerrone
The Combat Jiu-Jitsu (CJJ) Worlds: The Featherweights took place on Sunday, December 19. In the main event, fan-favorite UFC veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone made his CJJ debut when he took on elite submission grappler Craig Jones, also making his CJJ debut. The event also featured a 16-man CJJ featherweight tournament.
Jones didn’t need or use a single palm strike on his way to a rear-naked choke victory over Cerrone just a little over halfway into the regulation period. On the feet, Jones showed competent wrestling, working both the uchi-mata throw and leg lock entries from the overhook.
On the mat, Jones was clearly a step above Cerrone, who was able to avoid most leg entanglements, but was ultimately unable to avoid Jones getting to his back. About five minutes into the match, Jones sunk in a rear-naked choke; Cerrone offered a few strikes in defense but was quickly forced to tap.
In the featherweight tournament, ADCC veteran Keith Krikorian put on a dominant display of guard passing and back control throughout each of his four matches to win the title. In the finals, Krikorian squared off with dangerous leg locker Jordan Holy. Krikorian avoided any deep leg entanglements during regulation, and in overtime, Krikorian secured a quick, 30-second rear-naked choke to secure the victory.
