Conor McGregor Facing Charges After Alleged Altercation With Italian DJ

Italian DJ Francesco Facchinetti has officially filed charges against former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor, alleging that the MMA star hit him on the face, causing injuries, including a concussion. Per a report from CNN, Facchinetti alleges that the altercation took place on Saturday at the St. Regis hotel in Rome.

According to Facchinetti, he was included in a group that had been invited by McGregor to the hotel. When that group wanted to leave, Facchinetti says, McGregor lashed out and struck the DJ.

Since rising to international prominence as the biggest star in MMA, McGregor has found himself involved in a number of legal issues. In late 2019, he pleaded guilty to assault after punching a man in a bar in Dublin. In September 2020, he was arrested on allegations of sexual assault and indecent exposure; those charges have since been dropped. Finally, in January of this year, he was sued over allegations of rape stemming from an incident in 2018.

McGregor gained international fame in 2015 and 2016, when he captured both the UFC featherweight and lightweight titles. Those victories, coupled with his enigmatic and often brash personality, have made him a massive draw in both MMA and boxing (in 2017, he lost a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, Jr.). He is 1-3 in his last four bouts, and is coming off back-to-back losses to rival Dustin Poirier.
