Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira set to represent Atos at CJI 2
Pound-for-pound standout Diego “Pato” Oliveira will compete in the 66kg division for Team Atos at CJI 2.
Team Atos has added one of the planet’s most dangerous submission hunters to its squad at CJI 2. Multiple-time IBJJF gi and no-gi world champion Diego “Pato” Oliveira will represent the team at 66kg.
The 26-year-old currently trains out of Art of Jiu-Jitsu, but consistent with the CJI rules that allow for one “wild card” slot on each team, “Pato” will be competing for the rival Southern California academy. He joins Felipe Pena as the second athlete announced for Atos.
Oliveira has spent the past few years cementing himself as a pound-for-pound powerhouse and one of the sport’s most technical grapplers. In the gi, he boasts four IBJJF world titles, having won three in a row dating back to 2023. He has found similar success in no-gi competition, winning a pair of IBJJF no-gi world titles in addition to a silver medal at the 2024 ADCC World Championships.
Throughout that run, “Pato” has scored numerous victories over elite-level competition across multiple weight classes, including submission victories over the likes of Dante Leon, Owen Jones, and Fabricio Andrey. His lone loss in 2025 so far came against Team America’s Deandre Corbe at the Sapateiro Invitational.
In terms of style, “Pato’s” world-class leg locks and submission-hunting approach to grappling should serve him well in the Quintet-style format in which grapplers go head-to-head in submission-only matches. The only way an athlete wins the match is by submission, and in the event that no submission occurs, both athletes will leave the mat.
Although he’ll be his team’s smallest competitor, his venomous submission game makes him a serious threat to take out much larger athletes. Indeed, as one of the sport’s most innovative leg lockers, “Pato” undoubtedly has what it takes to score some valuable points for his squad – and move them closer to winning the $1 million team prize.
