Gordon Ryan Announces “Un-Retirement”
Gordon Ryan has announced that he’s not going to retire just yet.
While this may not come as a shock to most people paying attention to Ryan’s public persona, it didn’t take long for his previous retirement announcement to be amended. His retirement was already in doubt when it was announced that he would be competing on the upcoming Third Coast Grappling 4 against Patrick Gaudio.
It seems like it might no longer the case that Ryan is making a transition to MMA and we don’t know if he ever actually will make the jump at this point. Ryan was most recently seen before the holiday period, taking on Aleksei Oleinik at Quintet Ultra and Bo Nickal under modified rules at Third Coast Grappling 3 to end a pretty perfect year.
Ryan managed to go the entirety of 2019 without losing a single match and the highlight of his year was undoubtedly taking double gold at the ADCC World Championships and beating the legendary Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida in the Absolute final. All of this is made even more impressive as it was off the back of a particularly bad knee injury that left him needing reconstructive surgery.
In typical Gordon Ryan fashion, he released an Instagram post that simply said the following:
“Since you American f***s cant hold down the fort I will give you all an extra year of dominance. I will compete all of 2020. No one is safe.”
