Henry Cejudo Says Boxing Match With Ryan Garcia Is In The Works

Henry Cejudo recently paid Joe Rogan a visit to appear on his immensely popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, and opened up about his desire to set up a boxing match with Ryan Garcia (20-0). The news comes after Cejudo became only the second UFC fighter (After Georges St. Pierre) to call it a day at the very peak of his career when he announced his immediate retirement after beating Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 to retain his UFC Bantamweight World Championship.

Cejudo has cemented his place as a future UFC Hall Of Famer and a combat sports legend at the event when he became the first man to knockout one of the greatest Bantamweight fighters of all time in Cruz. This victory meant that Cejudo had successfully defended both of his UFC titles in the Flyweight and Bantamweight division, on top of the Olympic Gold Medal he earned in Wrestling back in 2008. When he sat down with Joe Rogan he explained that the only fight that could tempt him back to the UFC would be if they were willing to let him fight Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC Featherweight World Championship, giving him the opportunity to become the organisation’s first Three-Weight World Champion. Although, it’s worth remembering that Volkanovski still has to defend his title against Max Holloway in the rematch at UFC 250.

Outside of the UFC, it seems as though Henry Cejudo is looking at turning his hands to boxing instead, as he revealed that his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, is already trying to set up a match with WBC Silver Lightweight Champion, Ryan Garcia. While Cejudo has managed to turn himself into a surprisingly capable striker over the course of his MMA career, it remains to be seen how well he would fare in a boxing match against a lifelong boxer, and how he would cope under the more limited ruleset.
