Watch: Highlights of Andy Murasaki’s $10,000 Black Belt Debut

Andy Murasaki couldn’t have asked for a better black belt debut. Over the weekend at the inaugural Evolved Ur Game (EUG) promotions event, Murasaki won three matches in a stacked 160-pound, eight-man tournament to walk away with a championship belt and a cool $10,000. FloGrappling has released a highlight video of Murasaki’s spectacular performance.

An Andre Galvao black belt and Atos representative, Murasaki defeated Kennedy Maciel, Gianni Grippo, and Matheus Gabriel to capture the title. Throughout the night, Murasaki used a dynamic top game that mixed pressure passes with leg drags and outside passes to frustrate and stifle his guard-playing opponents. Notably, Murasaki became the first grappler in years to submit world champion Gianni Grippo.

After his win in the finals, Murasaki announced his intention to compete in the next EUG event, which will feature another eight-man tournament, this time at 170-pounds.
