Fight 2 Win 132: Garry Tonon v Davi Ramos Preview

Fight 2 Win 132 comes to Hawaii this Saturday where the main event will see Danaher Death Squad member Garry Tonon face off against Davi Ramos, the 2015 ADCC Champion representing Team Atos.

Both fighters are accomplished grapplers who have recently made the switch to MMA with fantastic results. Ramos is currently with the UFC and holds a professional  MMA record of 10 wins and 3 losses, claiming three of his past four victories by way of submission via RNC. Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon made his MMA debut slightly later but still holds a 5-0 record, all by knockout or submission.

However, it is Tonon’s recent performance at ADCC in September that has fans most excited. Tonon came out aggressively all throughout the tournament, taking out Edwin Najmi by flying heel hook in only 15 seconds and having the best match of the tournament with Renato Canuto. Tonon’s only division loss came in a close overtime defeat to TJ Torres, who would go on to win the -77kg bracket while Tonon came away with a bronze medal.

One can’t help but draw the comparison between Tonon’s performance to Ramos’s own gold medal ADCC run in 2015. Ramos flew through the -77kg category and won his final match in spectacular fashion by flying armbar. Tonon has been more active on the grappling circuit lately as Ramos has focused more on his MMA career, but that shouldn’t slow him down at all.

Both fighters are strong wrestlers, so we should see a tough takedown battle to start the fight. Once on the ground however, all submissions being legal plays into Tonon’s hands as an expert leglocker. It’s almost impossible to predict the winner in what is sure to be a display of world-class BJJ.

Fight 2 Win 132 Main Card:
