Fight Video: Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida Earns Second MMA Win By Submission

Legendary jiu-jitsu competitor Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida continues his march into the MMA world. On Friday, at ONE Championship: Winter Warriors, Almeida picked up his second professional MMA win when he submitted the previously undefeated Ji Won Kang in the first round.

Almeida looked comfortable on the feet, but nonetheless quickly took the fight to his area of expertise with a clean double leg takedown less than a minute into the bout. From top position, Almeida patiently softened up Kang with ground strikes before taking Kang’s back. Once on the back, it was academic as Almeida applied a palm-to-palm choke from the back, eventually earning the tap halfway through the first round.

Similar to Almeida’s MMA debut in September, the jiu-jitsu specialist took essentially zero damage on his way to a quick submission win.

What’s next for Almeida? Although this was just his second fight — both of which have taken place in ONE Championship — Almeida just defeated the promotion’s top heavyweight contender. ONE heavyweight champion Arjan Bhullar is not currently scheduled for his first title defense.
