Garry Tonon Confirmed for 2022 ADCC World Championships

One of grappling’s most entertaining competitors will return for his fifth ADCC World Championships appearance in 2022. Undefeated professional MMA fighter and ADCC medalist Garry Tonon is a confirmed competitor for the 2022 ADCC World Championships.

The organization announced Tonon’s participation on Instagram.

A longtime member of the now-defunct Danaher Death Squad, Tonon was a bit of a pioneer in the submission-only competition scene. Relying on his incredibly back-taking ability and devastating leg locks, Tonon was a multiple-time EBI champion from 2014 to 2016.

Tonon has competed in four previous ADCC World Championships. In 2019, he made the podium with a bronze medal, defeating Renato Canuto along the way in one of the best ADCC matches in recent memory.

Since 2018, Tonon has focused much of his energy on his MMA career. He sports a perfect 6-0 professional record with five wins by stoppage. Tonon is expected to face ONE Championship lightweight champion Than Le in his next bout.

How to watch: The 2022 ADCC World Championships will take place on September 17-18 and will air live on FloGrappling (subscription required).
