Geo Martinez Out of Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds

Unfortunately the CJJ worlds has lost one of its biggest names. Geo Martinez was scheduled to make his CJJ debut on Sunday night, but it appears he has been forced to withdraw due to an injury. Martinez has been struggling with injuries since Quintet and it’s yet to be seen if this is a new injury or just a relapse in his recovery.

Martinez will be replaced by 10th Planet HQ trials winner Jesus Urbina. Urbina is a collegiate wrestler, 10th Planet brown belt and fights MMA. With Martinez out, all eyes will be on Ben Eddy, who will be the big favourite.

If losing Geo wasn’t bad enough, it appears that another former EBI champion has also been forced to withdraw. Jon Calestine appears no longer to be involved on the card, but no announcement has been made regarding his replacement.

Like Martinez, Calestine has been struggling with a number of injuries and it seems like he couldn’t get into fighting condition.

Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds goes down on Sunday night live on UFC FightPass.
