Gregor Gillespie Earns Blue Belt After 9 Years of BJJ

UFC Lightweight and proud owner of a 13-1 MMA record, Gregor Gillespie has only just been awarded his blue belt in BJJ. Gillespie has been training for 9 years, a professional MMA fighter for 6 and he’s been playing his trade in the UFC for nearly 4 of them. Gillespie was even starting to come within reach of a title shot thanks to five finishes out of six wins and an undefeated MMA record, until he was matched up with Kevin Lee and outworked to a Decision victory at UFC 244. It should be more than a little surprising to then find out that the man has done all of that as a white belt.

He’s even won a Performance of the Night Bonus for his Arm Triangle submission victory over BJJ Brown Belt Vinc Pinchel at UFC Fight Night 131. That was his second submission victory in the UFC after locking up another Arm Triangle on Jason Gonzalez. It seems to be something of a favorite of Gillespie’s as he’s finished four of his five submission wins by Arm Triangle, with the only different method being via Rear Naked Choke.

“This has been 9 years in the making, I’ve sacrificed so much to get this piece of cloth …to all the guys that I’ve beaten….yes you were actually beaten by a white belt.

Thanks to professor @graciebarrajupiter and @graciebarra631nb professor Carlos.”
