Brazil’s premier jiu-jitsu promotion is planning a 16-man openweight tournament stacked with elite competitors. BJJ Stars 10 goes down on Saturday, April 22, and features a number of ADCC and IBJJF world champions.

The winner of the one-night tournament will take home 200,000 reais (approximately US$38,000).

The promotion announced the full line-up on Instagram.

Full BJJ Stars 10 openweight tournament line-up

  • Erich Munis
  • Kaynan Duarte
  • Mica Galvao
  • Fellipe Andrew
  • Victor Hugo
  • Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu
  • Patrick Gaudio
  • Gutemberg Pereira
  • Adam Wardzinski
  • Mauricio Oliveira
  • Devhonte Johnson
  • Otavio Nalati
  • Pedro Lucas
  • Uanderson Ferreira
  • Guillerme Lambertucci
  • Vinicius Liberati

At first blush, several names stand out at early favorites.

Erich Munis is a two-time IBJJF world champion and a real threat to win the tournament, having lost just three times as a black belt. However, one of those three losses came against fellow tournament competitor Gutemberg Pereira.

Pereira is an accomplished competitor in his own right but has suffered recent losses to Victor Hugo and Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu – both of whom should be considered favorites to make it deep into the bracket. A 2021 IBJJF world champion and recent ADCC veteran, Hugo might be the field’s largest competitor and possesses a well-rounded, submission-oriented game that should serve him well.

Abreu, meanwhile, is one of the most accomplished grapplers in the field, although he has focused much of his efforts on no-gi competition lately.

Alliance’s Fellipe Andrew is one of the sport’s most active competitors and holds recent victories over a number of his fellow tournament competitors.

Additionally, look out for two-time ADCC champion and IBJJF world champion Kaynan Duarte, who has the size and elite technique to make him a favorite. The Atos representative’s most recent defeat came at the 2022 IBJJF Worlds at the hands of Fellipe Andrew.

Finally, another grappler to keep an eye on is Mica Galvao. Although he might be one of the field’s smallest competitors, he should nonetheless be considered a favorite to make it deep. The 19-year-old prodigy is a 2022 IBJJF world champion, is undefeated in IBJJF competition, and has lost just a handful of times as a black belt.
