Mikey Musumeci booked against no-gi world champion Osamah Almarwai at ONE Fight Night 10

Mikey Musumeci will defend his ONE flyweight submission grappling world title against Osamah Almarwai.

Elite pound-for-pound competitor Mikey Musumeci is set for the second defense of his ONE flyweight submission grappling world title, as he is scheduled to square off with 2022 IBJJF No-Gi Worlds champion Osamah Almarwai.

That match will be a co-main event on ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5 and will take place live at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

A five-time IBJJF world champion (four times in the gi, and once in no-gi), Musumeci is undefeated across three matches inside ONE Championship. He submitted MMA legend Masakazu Imanari in his promotional debut and, in October 2022, earned a decision win over Cleber Sousa to capture the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world title.

In his most recent outing, the New Jersey native successfully defended his title against Combat Sambo world champion Gantumur Bayanduuren. And although Musumeci could not secure the submission in that outing, he completely dominated the Mongolian, badly injuring his opponent’s leg.

Who is Mikey Musumeci’s opponent, Osamah Almarwai?

Against Almarwai, Musumeci will face the stiffest test of his ONE tenure.

Now just a little over a year into his black belt career, Almarwai has already made waves competing at the highest level. In 2022, he took home gold at the IBJJF Masters Worlds, no-gi American Nationals, no-gi Pans, and no-gi Worlds.

Notably, Almarwai has competed in various rulesets since receiving his black belt from Andre Galvao. In addition to regular IBJJF competitions, he has tested himself under ADCC rules and Fight 2 Win’s submission-only format which is similar to ONE’s submission grappling ruleset.

Also, the Atos representative owns a submission victory over 2021 IBJJF no-gi world champion Estevan Martinez – a man Musumeci was unable to submit over the course of a 15-minute submission-only match at Who’s Number ONE.

How to watch: ONE Fight Night 10 takes place on Friday, May 5 and will air live on Prime Video (free with Amazon Plus subscription).
