Polaris 17: Craig Jones vs. Davi Ramos Full Card Line-Up and Preview

On Saturday, October 9, two-weight champion Craig Jones will return to the Polaris mat for the first time in over two years, when he will take on ADCC champion and UFC veteran Davi Ramos in the main event of Polaris 17. Lower on the card, Kendall Reusing and Venla Luukkonen will battle for the inaugural Polaris women’s title, and exciting competitors such as Jed Hue, Robert Degle, and Kody Steele.

Craig Jones is one of the best pound-for-pound grapplers in the world, and his submission-oriented, leg locking style is perfectly suited to the Polaris submission-only ruleset. He is undefeated in competition this year, with three Who’s Number One (WNO) wins over Ronaldo JuniorLuiz Panza, and Tye Ruotolo, respectively.

Jones’ opponent, Davi Ramos, will face an uphill battle. Ramos is a 2015 ADCC champion and a seven-fight UFC veteran. He has competed sparingly in grappling over the past few years, and is currently on a four-match losing skid, most recently suffering a submission loss to Dante Leon at Fight To Win 182. Despite his recent struggles, Ramos, with his superb athleticism and excellent wrestling and back-takes, is a threat to any competitor in the world.

In the co-main event, IBJJF no-gi world champion and recent WNO Championship silver medalist Kendall Reusing will take on two-time black belt world champion Venla Luukkonen. Both women are elite guard passers and top control artists, so this match may turn into a wrestling match on the feet, where Reusing is one of the best in jiu-jitsu.

Lower on the card, recently promoted black belt Jed Hue will face Brazilian Fight Factory’s Kody Steele in what should be a barn burner, and leg locking specialist Robert Degle takes on fellow leg locker and ADCC veteran Kamil Wilk. Also, recent ADCC Trials winner Eoghan O’Flanagan will look to follow up on that dominant performance when he squares off with Tarik Hopstock.
