UFC BJJ 2 results: Andrew Tackett, Mason Fowler dominate title bouts

The second iteration of UFC BJJ took place on Thursday night, and the card was topped by a pair of title matches.
In the main event of UFC BJJ 2, defending welterweight champion Andrew Tackett turned in a sensational performance against decorated veteran Renato Canuto.
The pair delivered fireworks from the bout’s opening seconds, engaging frantic scrambles through the first minute. Tackett was able to generally come out on top in those scrambles and, late in the round, he secured top position and a clean guard pass. From there, as Canuto looked to escape, Tackett jumped on a D’arce choke, forcing the tap with just seconds remaining.
With notable victories over the likes of Tommy Langaker, Nicky Ryan, and Eoghan O’Flanagan, Tackett remains among the sport’s top pound-for-pound competitors.
Before that, Mason Fowler made quick work of David Garmo to claim the inaugural UFC BJJ light heavyweight title. Fowler came into the matchup as a sizeable favorite and delivered on those expectations, scoring an early takedown before taking Garmo’s back and sinking in the match-ending rear-naked choke.
A former Submission Underground champion and mainstay of the UFC Fight Pass Invitational, Fowler has tasted defeat just once when competing under the UFC umbrella.
Following his victory, the newly crowned champion called for matches against former foe Pedro Machado, a fresh matchup against Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa, or a clash with IBJJF no-gi world champion Devhonte Johnson.
Lower on the card, William Tackett avenged a 2019 loss to Kyle Chambers with a dominant, first-round rear-naked choke victory over the 10th Planet leg lock specialist. Raquel Canuto, Aurelie Le Vern, and, in the evening’s opening contest, Jalen Fonacier each picked up highlight-reel first-round finishes of their own.
