UFC FPI 7 results and highlights: Rodriguez out-points Fowler; Griffith upsets Duarte

Another installment of the UFC Fight Pass Invitational (UFC FPI) went down on Wednesday night, and the card featured a number of the planet’s top no-gi competitors.
In the main event, top-five heavyweights Nick Rodriguez and Mason Fowler engaged in a closely competitive and relatively high-paced match. During the submission-only regulation period, Fowler did good work from the bottom position, threatening several wrestle-ups while using his rubber guard to nullify much of Rodriguez’s guard passing. For his part, the B-Team product worked relentlessly for his trademark body-lock passing, which forced Fowler on the defensive for stretches of the match.
In the points-based overtime period, Rodriguez did what he did best and achieved a clean guard pass, sealing the victory in his favor.
Before that, New Wave brown belt Luke Griffith earned the biggest win of his career with an impressive rear-naked choke victory over two-time ADCC gold medalist Kaynan Duarte. The win will undoubtedly give the South African plenty of confidence as he prepares to compete in the +99kg division at this year’s ADCC World Championships.
In other notable action, reigning ADCC 88kg champion Giancarlo Bodoni looked in top form against Gabriel Arges; Jonnatas Gracie shined in a methodical points victory over Jay Rodriguez; Renato Canuto scored a spectacular, highlight-reel heel hook on Aaron Wilson; and Helena Crevar secured a decision win over fellow ADCC qualifier Aurelie Le Vern.
