Nick Rogriguez vs. Mason Fowler
Returning to the FPI stage is two-time ADCC silver medalist Nick Rodriguez. The last time out at FPI 6 Rodriguez defeated Roberto Jimenez via points decision. A true veteran of the game now Rodriguez is known for his punishing wrestle-jitsu style. His matches feature big slams, brutal bodylock passing, and smothering top pressure.
Standing across the mat from him will be the red-hot Mason Fowler, who is on a 5-match win streak including back-to-back wins at FPI 5 and 6 against Haisam Rida and Pedro Marinho, respectively. He is also the FPI absolute champion.
Fowler is a very well-rounded grappler and competent wrestler. Rodriguez likes to sit guard in search of wrestle-ups, so it will be interesting to see how much action takes place on the feet. With two of the most aggressive grapplers competing today fans can expect a grueling closely contested battle from bell to bell.
Renato Moicano vs. Christian Guzman
Renato “Money” Moicano is quickly becoming one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC today. Moicano is a very talented grappler with 10 submissions on his resume including 6 in the UFC. Moicano is very adept at taking the back and finishing fights via rear naked choke.
Competing out of Gracie Barra in Houston, Texas, Christian Guzman will have a chance to add a UFC star to his resume. Guzman is a very seasoned black belt who has competed on big stages such as FPI, Submission Hunter Pro, and Third Coast Grappling.
“Money” is looking to lock up another submission and add to his growing bank account. Moicano always delivers when he competes. Fans should make sure to stay tuned for his post-match interview should he win as they are often as exciting as the bouts themselves.
Kaynan Duarte vs. Luke Griffith
One of the truly elite grapplers in the sport today, Kaynan Duarte, makes his UFC FPI debut. Duarte is a two-time ADCC champion and multiple-time IBJJF world champion. Duarte opened his 2024 schedule with an IBJJF Absolute no-gi Grand Prix title. Duarte has extremely sound grappling and is nearly impossible to score on.
New Wave product Luke Griffith returns to the UFC FPI stage fresh off a heel hook win at GrappleFest 18. He is a two-time ADCC EU trials champion. Griffith is known for being a dangerous finisher with tons of submissions on his resume.
This is the first time these two will toe the line against one another. If Griffith wants to crack the iron-clad armor of Duarte, he is going to need to attack which could lead to a very exciting battle.
The rest of the card at UFC FPI 7
The rest of the UFC FPI 7 card is stacked with solid bouts from top to bottom including a featured bout between multiple-time IBJJF world champion Gabriel Arges and 2022 ADCC world champion Giancarlo Bodoni.
Aaron Wilson and Renato Canuto run back an exciting 2021 bout which Canuto won by points.
In his last bout at UFC FPI 5 Jonnatas Gracie defeated Nicky Ryan via points. At UFC FPI 7 he takes on Ryan’s B-Team teammate Jay Rodriguez. Jay Rod is allergic to boring bouts and this one should be no different. This bout has Fight of the Night potential.
Opening the card is a battle of ADCC Trials winners as young prodigy Helena Crevar takes on European ADCC Trials winner Aurélie Le Vern.
