UFC Targets Askren-Maia Matchup

The UFC is currently considering Ben Askren v. Demian Maia once Askren’s medical suspension is up this September. The fight will take place sometime after his suspension is up – likely not until late fall.

UFC is currently discussing booking Ben Askren vs. Demian Maia once Askren’s medical suspension is up in September, according to sources.

Askren, coming off a devastating loss to Jorge Masvidal (clip below), would look to bounce back with a win over the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

Meanwhile, Maia is currently 27-9 with a two-fight win streak. He also took a decision win over Masvidal in May 2017.

Askren’s last fight against a submission specialist was against Shinya Aoki in November 2017, which he won by TKO. Maia, however, has proven that he can handle strikers.
