Mikey Musumeci came out of the IBJJF European Championships 2020 with one of the most incredible stories as he made a fantastic run through the tournament’s absolute division and above is the footage of him overcoming the biggest weight disadvantage of the day against Seif Eddine-Houmine. Musumeci went on to face one of the world’s best competitors at Heavyweight, Mahamed Aly, after this match and only narrowly lost out on a medal position by losing 2-1 on advantages to the significantly bigger Aly.
While Mikey Musumeci usually competes in one of the lightest divisions available at Roosterweight, he entered the absolute division and came up against the Ultra-Heavyweight Seif Eddine-Houmine, who regularly weighs in anywhere north of 300 pounds. With at least 70kg on Musumeci, Eddine-Houmine weighs more than double what the smaller man does and used every ounce of that weight to his advantage in their match, only for Musumeci to display superior technique en route to a victory on points.
Shortly after Musumeci’s solid performance at the IBJJF European Championships 2020, his longtime coach and training partner Caio Terra boasted that Musumeci could beat any competitor in any weight class and even put up $10,000 of his own money in a bet with Erberth Santos for a future matchup between them. Then came the news that shocked everyone just a little over a month later, when both Mikey and Tammi Musumeci announced that they would no longer represent Brasa CTA and are separating from Caio Terra.
