Video: Jornel Lugo Puts Keith Lee to Sleep at the Bell at Bellator 265

Bellator MMA seems to have a bona fide prospect on its hands in Jornel Lugo. On Friday at Bellator 265, Lugo improved his perfect professional record to 6-0 with a technical submission win over Keith Lee.

Lugo was in control for essentially the full five minutes of the bout, controlling the action on the feet with crisp punches before taking it to the mat where he quickly moved to the back. As time wound down in the first round, Lugo attacked a rear-naked choke, and Lee relaxed his defense for a microsecond. In the blink of an eye and the sound of the bell signaling the end of the round, Lee was unconscious. Although Lee was able to quickly return to his feet, the bout was declared over and Lugo the winner by technical submission.

Jornel Lugo is one of the most promising young fighters in Bellator’s bantamweight division. The 25-year old Floridian is now 4-0 in Bellator. Prior to his win over Lee at Bellator 265, he defeated fellow bantamweight prospect Cass Bell.

In the main event of Bellator 265, longtime MMA veteran Cheick Kongo defeated fellow veteran Sergei Kharitonov, also by a buzzer-beater submission. Kongo’s win came at the end of the second round, although Kharitonov tapped prior to going unconscious.
