Craig Jones Out of ‘Road to ADCC’ with Injury
Commonly known as “2nd best”, one of the worlds best grapplers, Craig Jones, has had to pull out of the upcoming Road to ADCC event due to a hand injury. Jones’ match was supposed to be against IBJJF World Champion Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa, but now it looks like someone else will have to fight the Hulk instead. The news was announced by the event’s co-promoters, FloGrappling, in a post on their official Instagram account showing a photo of Jones’ X-Ray.
No information has been given on how the injury occured but presumably it was training for this big event. From FloGrappling’s post it looks as though Jones has broken a bone in his right hand, making him unfit to compete. It remains unknown as to whether Barbosa will remain on the card, but I’m sure there will be plenty of potential matches that could be paired with him – after all Road to ADCC is one of the biggest events in the sport featuring the biggest names, so the chances are likely that ADCC will keep Barbosa on the card.
Broken Bone in Right Hand
On the weekend of 17 July and 18 July, the ‘Road to ADCC’ will take place at the Thomas and Mack Arena in Las Vegas, and will feature many of the world’s top-ranking submission grapplers. The main event is going to be between the two 2019 ADCC gold medal winners – the Heavyweight champion Kaynan Duarte and Middleweight champion Matheus Diniz.
ADCC 2022 plan to host their biggest event yet, at an arena that can hold 10,000 capacity, with tickets for a ‘reasonable price’ – hoping for a sell-out. The 2019 ADCC World Championships was the largest to date and took place in a 4,000 capacity venue in front of a sold out crowd and plans for 2022 hope to up that by 150% – and we’re here for it.
