Following Felipe Pena’s retirement from the Gi and and his incredible Black Belt Open Weight win at the IBJJF World Championships, he has since called out the No-Gi GOAT – Gordon Ryan – to fight him at ADCC 2022. Pena is one of the few competitors that holds wins over Ryan, he got 1st place at the ADCC World Championships Absolute Division back in 2017 beating Ryan on points, and also is the only person to sub Ryan (via RNC).

Throughout his career, Ryan stands at 84-5-3 (W-L-D), his five losses come from Pena ( via points at ADCC Absolute 2017/ via RNC at Studio 540 Superfight 2017), Vinny Magalhaes (via points at ACB JJ 13 2018), Leandro Lo (via points at the ADCC West Coast Trials 2017) and Aaron Johnson (via points at Grappling Industries Montreal Absolute Division 2016). Meaning Ryan has only been submitted ONCE his entire professional career, and the person who got that sub was 2021 Black Belt Open Weight World Champion – Felipe Pena.

Pena posted a few pictures of the two back at ADCC in 2017 when he got the Gold and captioned it,

@felipepenabjj “My chubby son is a liar boy who always says that I don’t want to fight him, that I never sign the contract etc… And that’s the biggest lie in the world, because I’ve tried to make this fight happen several times but there are many fools who believe. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing mkt for a fight, doing trashtalk, this is based on the profile of each one, but he goes beyond the limit, offends, lies and deceives a lot of people in this big internet world. Since the ADCC confirmed that he will fight in the +99kg category (which by the way was not in my -99kg category) I make a public and official request here to the organization to change my category and put me in it (+99kg). My baby is very angry. I really want to move up and beat him for the 3rd time… Change approved @mojassim80 @adcc_official ?”

Gordon Ryan responded in the comments, “@adcc_official @mojassim80 give him to me on the 1st day. This way he will have a good seat on the 2nd day in the stands where he belongs as he watches me beat up Andre worse than Andre beat him up. I want him 2nd match.”

If this goes ahead, who have you got your money on?
