Main Character Jiu Jitsu 2 features stacked men’s bracket, women’s title match

Check out our preview of Main Character Jiu Jitsu 2, which features a stacked 185-pound 16-man bracket with $8,000 on the line.

Burgeoning professional grappling promotion Main Character Jiu Jitsu is set to return for its sophomore event, and the card will showcase a number of elite competitors.

Notably, 16 185-pound grapplers will compete in EBI-rules matches with an $8,000 cash prize and a championship belt on the line. Check out the list of competitors below; the bracket is set to be released Saturday night.

Main Character Jiu Jitsu 2 men’s 185-pound tournament line-up

  • PJ Barch
  • Hunter Colvin
  • Oliver Taza
  • Nathan Haddad
  • Felipe Cesar
  • Davis Asare
  • Jonathan Wilson
  • JB Betchloff
  • Joab Oliveira
  • Achilles Rocha
  • Ryan Aitken
  • Caleb Crump
  • Chris Wojcik
  • Fedor Nikolov
  • Kade Anastasios
  • Michael Esquivel

Several names stand out among the rest.

Veteran 10th Planet black belt PJ Barch looks to be an early favorite. A talented wrestler with elite back-taking skills, Barch shined at last September’s ADCC World Championships, defeating Tommy Langaker and returning two-time champion JT Torres to take home fourth place at the prestigious tournament. Since then, he has suffered high-profile losses to Andrew Tackett and Mica Galvao, but he remains one of the planet’s top no-gi grapplers and will have a target on his back in this tournament – although he typically competes at 170 pounds.

Multiple-time ADCC Trials winner Oliver Taza is perhaps the field’s most accomplished athlete. The New Wave representative is a feared leg locker who, lately, has displayed an ever-evolving takedown and back-taking game. And despite coming up just short in this year’s ADCC European and East Coast Trials, he nonetheless holds recent notable victories over the likes of Kieran Kichuk, Rene Sousa, and Elijah Dorsey.

Fans should also keep an eye on black belt standout Hunter Colvin. An ADCC Trials silver medalist, Colvin has been a mainstay on the elite no-gi scene over the past couple of years, competing against the world’s best in a number of top promotions. His seemingly endless gas tank and well-rounded game make him one to watch.

Other competitors to watch include teenage prodigy Achilles Rocha, 10th Planet submission specialist Ryan Aitken, and rising New Wave athlete Davis Asare.

And finally, The B-Team’s Chris Wojcik should be considered a dark horse, and he could be poised for a breakout performance this weekend. A black belt under Jeff Serafin, Wojcik is a multiple-time ADCC Trials semifinalist with the world-class leg-locking skills to make it deep into, if not win the tournament.

Main Character Jiu Jitsu 2 will also feature a 125-pound title match between a pair of top no-gi competitors, as Jasmine Rocha squares off with Sophia Cassella.

Rocha is a two-time ADCC Trials silver medalist and an elite submission hunter, possessing a dangerous closed guard game as well as top-tier guard passing.

She’ll be facing an equally dangerous submission hunter in Cassella. She is a skilled leg locker – owning the fastest-ever submission in a Who’s Number One women’s match – who has recently made strides to round out her overall game.

How to watch: Main Character Jiu Jitsu 2 takes place on Sunday, November 12, at 2:30 PM ET, and will be available for pay-per-view on www.fightflix.tv.
