Dates Announced for 2022 IBJJF Worlds

To the delight of jiu-jitsu fans and practitioners everywhere, the IBJJF announced on Thursday the dates for the 2022 Worlds. The organization also announced that the tournament will be returning to its longtime home venue — the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, CA.

The 2022 Worlds will take place on June 1-5.

The IBJJF’s largest and most important tournament has a rocky few years. In 2020, the event was canceled altogether due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The Worlds returned in 2021, but late in the year and at a different venue than the Pyramid — a venue that the jiu-jitsu community links to Worlds. That change in venue for the 2021 Worlds drew criticism from some.

The 2021 Worlds also suffered the loss of a highly-anticipated open weight final between rivals Felipe Pena and Nicholas Meregali after Meregali was disqualified from the event for making a lewd gesture during one of his matches.
