Gordon Ryan’s Half Guard Instructional Dropping Soon

The current king of no-gi grappling, Gordon Ryan, is staying busy in paradise. Fresh from his newly-adopted home of Puerto Rico, Ryan announced that he is now in the final stages of planning his much-anticipated half guard instructional, which is set to be released in February through BJJ Fanatics.

“This will be a full half guard series from top to bottom,” Ryan wrote on Instagram. “It will also demonstrate the interface between half guard, seated guard, and supine guard.”

Given his dominance in competition, it’s no surprise that Ryan’s instructionals are some of the most sought after in grappling. He has already released nine popular instructional videos on BJJ Fanatics on topics ranging from nutrition and strength training, to closed guard attacks, to guard passing. As he suggests in the Instagram post, the half guard instructional should pair well with Ryan’s other guard-based systems, including the supine and seated guards.

In late 2020, Ryan announced his move from New York, where he had long been a fixture of the “blue basement” at Renzo Gracie Academy, to Puerto Rico where he is establishing his own team of elite grapplers. His brother, Nicky Ryan, as well as Craig Jones and head coach John Danaher, have or will be joining Ryan in the move to Puerto Rico.
