Jonny Tama and Kennedy Maciel Added to EUG 8-Man Tournament

On April 3, Evolve Ur Game (EUG) promotions will hold an eight-man gi tournament showcasing some of the best lighter-weight grapplers in the world. Recently, EUG announced that Thiago Macedo and Shane Jamil-Hill have been forced out of the event; replacing them will be Johnny Tama and Kennedy Maciel.

Tama is one of the sport’s most active competitors. He was a 2019 IBJJF no-gi world champion, and most recently competed at Who’s Number One, dropping a close decision to Oliver Taza.

The son of jiu-jitsu legend Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles, Maciel is one of the most promising young competitors in the sport. After winning an IBJJF world championship as a brown belt, he won the 2018 no-gi world championship and the 2020 no-gi Pans. Maciel is a Fight to Win champion and is coming off a decision win over Diego “Pato” Oliveira.

The addition of Maciel to the already-stacked tournament field is huge. Given his recent competition history, he is immediately one of the favorites to win the tournament.

The one-night, eight-man EUG tournament will take place on April 3, with $10,000 in prize money on the line, and will air exclusively on FloGrappling. Check out the full list of competitors below:
