UFC’s Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington Get Into Altercation at Miami Restaurant
UFC welterweights Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal had an altercation at a Miami restaurant late Monday night. Details are sketchy as to what happened between the former American Top Team teammates. Talk show host and podcaster Andy Slater broke the news via Twitter: “SLATER SCOOP: UFC stars Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal got into a fight moments ago at Papi Steak restaurant in Miami Beach. Police have been called.”
The pair recently faced off in a 5 round fight headlining UFC 272 on March 5 with Covington taking a unanimous decision victory. Immediately after the fight, Masvidal was still at Covington calling him a “b****’”; the two had to be separated by staff as they continued to throw insults back and forth.
Monday’s incident took place at Papi Steak restaurant in Miami, FL. Covington was having dinner with the social media group Nelk Boys, who posted a video with the UFC star.
TMZ reports that Masvidal attacked as Covington was leaving the restaurant. Covington was then filmed being surrounded by police officers, who responded to the incident. In the video obtained by TMZ, Covington can be heard saying: “He’s over here swinging, trying to come at me, and I ran…”
He is then heard asking The Nelk Boys’ Bob Menery, “How would (Masvidal) know I’m here?”
“I don’t know,” Menery responded in the clip. “You’re all over the internet.”
As of now, no arrests have been made.
However, shortly after the conflict, Masvidal posted a video on Twitter tagging Covington where he said: “I’m calling this show your face challenge. Wassup, I’m from Day County. You talk that s*** you’ve got to back it up. That’s how my city rolls, man.”
