Video: Let Mikey Musumeci Fix Your Omoplata With This One Detail

Mikey Musumeci might be the most technical grappler alive today. His understanding of the details of body mechanics and positioning are unparalleled. In a recent video, Musumeci reveals how one small adjustment is the difference between a good and bad omoplata.

Let Mikey fix your omoplata with the short video below.

Musumeci says that the key to an effective omoplata is controlling the orientation of the wrist. Just like a straight armbar, the power of the submission depends on the opponent’s wrist. Musumeci turns his opponent’s pinky finger upward, which raises the elbow to bring the shoulder out of alignment.

This small detail may seem insignificant, but like anything in jiu-jitsu, details are crucial.

Musumeci is already one of the most accomplished American jiu-jitsu players ever, and perhaps the best pound-for-pound gi grappler on the planet. He is a three-time IBJJF black belt world champion and a no-gi world champion. Given his vast accomplishments and superbly technical style, it’s no wonder he is one of the most sought-after instructors on the planet.
