Mikey Musumeci Makes History for Fastest Submission in 12 Seconds
American black belt and 3x world champion Michael Musumeci has made history and broke a world record (yet to be confirmed by Guinness world records) that’s been unbeaten for the past 20 years.
And the fastest submission during an IBJJF male adult black belt final, goes to Michael Musumeci with 12 seconds at the 2019 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship Finals in Long Beach California, USA on 2nd June 2019. Musumeci has been fully recognised by IBJJF and they have backed him up on his Guinness world record claim. Prior to Musumeci, Rodrigo ‘Comprido’ Medieiros held the record since 1999 with a record of 17 seconds when he also won the world championship. After two decades the record has finally been beaten and Musumeci now holds the record for fastest submission in the IBJJF Worlds finals history.
Not only did USA’s Mikey Musumeci break a world record at this competition, he also became the first non-Brazilian to become 3x IBJJF world black belt champion when he defeated the legend Bruno Malfacine in the semi final.
Musumeci is known for his highly efficient and innovative approach towards leglocks which he teaches on his instructional series with BJJ Fanatics.
To get the extremely (almost unbelievable) quick 12 second tap, Musumeci executed a straight ankle lock against Rodnel Barbosa Gabriel Junior during the 2019 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu competition in the Adult Black Belt Male Final.
Andre Fernandes , Executive Director of International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) recognises this and confirms in writing.
Musumeci announced the news on his social media channels that he is now in the process of having the Guinness World Record books updated to confirm that he is now the holder of the fastest submission in IBJJF history as of last year. His incredible triumph has already been recognized by the IBJJF themselves in an official letter, and they currently regard him as the holder for the fastest submission in their history, but it is not yet formally recognized by Guinness World Records at the moment.
Achievement Recognized by IBJJF
Congratulations to Mikey on the world record, and hopefully you’ll get it certified soon!
